Wilhelmsen

AFFORDABLE AND COMFORTABLE

Smart and homey

A Second Home

There is no line at check-in at Wilhelmsen House in Tønsberg. There is no check-in at all. In the near-unmanned accommodation where most things are controlled by the smart phone, one would think it would be cold and impersonal. Surprisingly enough, it is the exact opposite.

- The brilliant thing is that you don't need many employees. For the 49 rooms we rent out, there is only one administrative 100% position. And that's me, Anette Aale says with a smile. – There is also a 30% weekend position.

A Place to Call Home

Although the concept is high-tech, it is the warm and intimate that hits you when you step onto the red carpet at Wilhelmsen House. There is a lot of velour and it has a homey style. During the winter, the fire is always lit.

- The guests are to feel that they are arriving in a nice place. We want this to be a second home!

The CEO at Wilhelmsen House offers a homey alternative to those that need shelter in Tønsberg. You control everything yourself. If you want. And the house has many possibilities; small rooms and big family rooms for up to four people. Everything at a fair price right next to Vestfold Hospital and a nice walk from Tønsberg station. – We don't have a reception, a pool on the roof, a restaurant with a warm lunch and dinner, or big conference rooms, which is why we can offer fair prices, she says.

Quality bakery on the first floor

Impersonal, you might think. But that is not what you experience when you walk through those doors. The first thing you will see is café WITH, which has been nominated for Bakery of the Year. https://www.bakeri.net/disse-er-i-finalen-i-arets-bakeri/ That means that you can have your breakfast at one of Norway's three best bakeries. If you want, that is. You decide if you want to order breakfast, or if you will fix it yourself in the kitchen in your room.

CEO

Someone to talk to

- As I have no colleagues, I talk to the guests a lot. We are right next to the hospital, so I end up talking to a lot of dependents. It's easy to stop by my office. And I can't stand watching people sitting in the common room, hurting. So, talking to the guests has become a big part of my job, Aale says.

She appreciates the trust the guests put in her. If there is anyone who needs more help than she can give, it is good to have the psychologists in the basements who can follow up individuals at a different level than what she is capable of herself.

Do everything yourself

At Wilhelmsen House, the idea is that the guests can do as much as possible themselves. It is meant to be easy to get there and easy to leave. You can book the room on your phone while you are standing in the lobby. 60 seconds after booking, you receive a code, and then you can go straight to your room. At least if you book after 2PM on the arrival day. If you want to check in early and to check out late, you can sort that out over email.

- We might be a little early, and we can see a lot of people joining the game, Anette says. We created the booking system and the booking page with Getshop in 2014/2015. Now, three years later, about 20 hotels have signed up for the same system. And it works incredibly well with very few problems, Anette Aale says. Of course, it can happen that some people don't have power on their phones when they are trying to get into the room. Or that people leave the room without their phone and then they have forgotten the code to the room when they want to get back in. All they have to do is call us, and we will fix the code quickly. It always works out if there are problems outside of office hours, because I only live four minutes away.

But everything has gone smoothly, Aale emphasizes. – If they have questions about other things when I'm not at work, such as, for example, what to do in Tønsberg, they can just google it, Anette Aale says.

Home for nurses

Wilhelmsen House was given as a gift in 1926 from Halfdan and Ragnhild Wilhelmsen and was to be used as a student home and place of education for nurses in Tønsberg. Now, the entire house has been restored, while the room arrangement has been maintained. – It has been important to keep as much of the old as possible during the restoration, but it's also been important with new ideas, Aale says. – When the building was ready to be open for the first time in 2015, we were given a protection award from the ancient monument association. We're very proud of that!

- Everything in the building has been upgraded and has the best solutions that are on the market, Anette Aale assures, saying that they are toying with the idea of developing a chat robot that can answer questions from guests immediately, 24/7, and be there for the guests at all times.

But even though it is a high-tech accommodation, a lot of people come here without using the automatic options. – We're right next to the hospital, so a lot of people come from there who don't have smartphones or email. That's not an issue. I come and show them around, she assures us.

Everything in the same house

At Wilhelmsen House, you will have access to a gym and a laundry room in the basement. There is also a separate health department, which has psychologists, hairdresser, a naprapathy, a nail designer. – And there's room for more, Anette Aale adds. – You can also book the entire hotel with the garden and have your summer party here, Anette Aale finishes.
